Band Structure of Helimagnons in MnSi Resolved by Inelastic Neutron Scattering.
A magnetic helix realizes a one-dimensional magnetic crystal with a period given by the pitch length λh. Its spin-wave excitations-the helimagnons-experience Bragg scattering off this periodicity, leading to gaps in the spectrum that inhibit their propagation along the pitch direction. Using high-resolution inelastic neutron scattering, the resulting band structure of helimagnons was resolved b...
متن کاملUltrafast optical excitation of magnetic skyrmions
Magnetic skyrmions in an insulating chiral magnet Cu2OSeO3 were studied by all-optical spin wave spectroscopy. The spins in the conical and skyrmion phases were excited by the impulsive magnetic field from the inverse-Faraday effect, and resultant spin dynamics were detected by using time-resolved magneto-optics. Clear dispersions of the helimagnon were observed, which is accompanied by a disti...
متن کاملHigh-spin Terminating Bands Formed from Successive Particle-hole Excitations across Closed Shells
High spin states in 30Zn and 66Dy isotopes with two protons outside the closed shells at Z = 28 and Z = 64, respectively, are discussed. Bands terminating at higher and higher spin values are formed from successive proton excitations across these shells. These bands show very different features depending on the number of excited particles. Very good agreement with experiment is obtained. Specia...
متن کاملSpectral properties of the two-dimensional Hubbard model.
The spectral properties of the 1-D Hubbard model are obtained from quantum Monte Carlo simulations using the maximum entropy method. The one-particle excitations are characterized by dispersive cosine-like bands. Velocities for spin-and charge excitations are obtained that lead to a conformal charge c = 0:98 0:05 for the largest system simulated (N = 84). An exact sum-rule for the spin-excitati...
متن کاملVector boson excitations near deconfined quantum critical points.
We show that the Néel states of two-dimensional antiferromagnets have low energy vector boson excitations in the vicinity of deconfined quantum critical points. We compute the universal damping of these excitations arising from spin-wave emission. Detection of such a vector boson will demonstrate the existence of emergent topological gauge excitations in a quantum spin system.
